The challenge
Learners could recognise a thousand words and still freeze in a conversation.
The client had a strong word learning method but their users kept reporting the same gap. They
could pass a review session comfortably and then fail to say a single sentence out loud to a
real person.
Speaking practice usually means booking a tutor, which is expensive and intimidating for a beginner.
The brief was to make the low stakes version: somewhere nobody is judging you and it does not
matter how often you stumble.
What we built
REVIEW
Words come back exactly when you are about to forget them
Each word has its own schedule based on how easily you recalled
it. Sessions stay short, and the app is honest when a word needs
to be seen again rather than quietly moving you on.

You hold a short spoken conversation using the words you have
learned. The tutor keeps the vocabulary within reach, corrects
gently, and never moves faster than you can answer.

A streak that survives a bad week
Missing a day does not wipe your progress. The app protects the
streak once a week, because the users who quit are the ones
who lost a fifty day run to a single busy Tuesday.
A signature detail
Making a speaking tutor forgiving on purpose
The first version corrected every error immediately and testers hated
it, because being interrupted mid sentence is exactly what they were
afraid of in real life. We changed the tutor to let a sentence finish,
then offer one correction, the one that matters most. Session length
in testing roughly doubled after that single change.
